How can i tell my friend is depressed? What are signs of depression?

My friend has gotten made fun of every day at school, which led to her cutting, but she has stopped. and i just wanted to know what are the signs of her being depressed? Do ppl hide depression so you wont know that they are very depressed inside? thanks http://bit.ly/mPREI1
