Why does it take six months of experiencing the symptoms of schizophrenia to find out if you have it?

I mean they’re pretty messed up symptoms. If that person has them for say 4 months, what would’ve been wrong with that person? I don’t think the broken leg analogy works because you know what that guy’s problem was….a broken leg. What do you call someone who hears voices for 4 months? http://bit.ly/pICUvt
